Businesses experience peaks and troughs throughout their life cycle, often requiring strategic shifts, brainstorming sessions, and the development of new strategies to enhance sales.?
However, a Chinese cosmetics company took a unique approach when facing challenges.?
In the midst of its struggles, the company invested Rs 1.04 Crore to brainwash its employees for increased sales.?
But now, it is asking for a refund, after the strategy failed.?
In 2020, a Hangzhou-based company in the eastern province of Zhejiang encountered difficulties.?
To address their challenges, they sought the services of Juhai Enterprise Management Consulting for sales training.?
Zhu, a shareholder in the company, revealed that the consulting firm pledged a significant improvement in performance and staff motivation through a brainwashing technique.?
Explaining the situation, Zhu conveyed, "Our company was facing a bottleneck in management at that time. They told us to come and learn, saying that for a certain amount of money, they could guarantee our sales performance would double or more, motivating employees with a kind of brainwashing."?
The process of 'brainwashing' was spearheaded by a prominent instructor who was specifically sent to train the company's staff.?
The training methods involved motivating employees by encouraging them to engage in activities like clapping and dancing in support of their sales efforts.?
The rationale behind promoting these seemingly audacious tactics was rooted in the belief that embracing shamelessness opens up endless possibilities in the world.?
"In that environment, we genuinely felt the impact. They claimed that if the employees adhered strictly to their instructions, performance could increase five-fold, six-fold, or even by 10 or 20 times," Zhu said, as quoted by South China Morning Post.?
Despite the assurances, the anticipated sales boost and service improvements fell short of expectations, prompting Zhu to request a refund from Juhai.?
Currently, Zhu is seeking a 660,000-yuan (Rs 76 lakh) refund based on the actual services rendered, while Juhai's headquarters has agreed to reimburse 162,000 yuan (Rs 18.65 lakh.)?
Social media users expressed their dissatisfaction.?
Some individuals on social media expressed dissatisfaction, suggesting that directing the funds to employees directly would have been more effective than the brainwashing approach.?
Another proposed an alternative perspective, envisioning the impact of investing 100,000 yuan monthly for a year in additional financial incentives for the staff.?
According to this viewpoint, such a strategy could lead to gratitude among employees and foster an incredible team spirit, presenting a superior option compared to the brainwashing scheme.
