India has called for an investigation into the theft of a crown of the Hindu goddess Kali, which was stolen from the Jeshoreshwari Temple in Bangladesh's Satkhira. The gold-plated crown made of silver was gifted to the temple by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Bangladesh in March 2021.?

The Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali and is located in Ishwaripur, a village in the Satkhira District of southwestern Bangladesh. According to Hindu mythology, the Jeshoreshwari Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths scattered across India and neighbouring countries. The name "Jeshoreshwari" means "Goddess of Jeshore."??
It is believed that the 100-door temple of the Jashoreshwari Peeth was built by a Brahman named Anari in the latter part of the 12th century.??
According to Hindu mythology, of the 51 Peeths, the temple at Ishwaripur is the place where the palms and soles of the feet of Goddess Sati fell, and the goddess resides there in the form of Devi Jashoreshwari, while Lord Shiva appears as Chanda.??
The crown was reportedly stolen in the afternoon of Thursday when Temple Priest Dilip Mukherjee left following the day's worship. The cleaning staff later found that the crown was missing from the deity's head.??
Based on a complaint by the temple authorities, the local police have launched an investigation.??
"We are reviewing the temple's CCTV footage to identify the thief," said Inspector Taizul Islam of Shyamnagar Police Station.??
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka also expressed concern over the theft and called for an investigation.??
"We have seen reports of the theft of the crown gifted by PM Modi to Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple (Satkhira) in 2021 during his visit to Bangladesh. We express deep concern and urge the Government of Bangladesh to investigate the theft, recover the crown, and take action against the perpetrators," the High Commission said in a social media post.
