Second Congo War (1998¨C2003)
Great War of Africa, also known as the Second Congo War began in August 1998 and went on for over four years before officially ending in July 2003 after the Transitional Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo took control. The Second Congo War is believed to be the deadliest war in the modern African history, leading to the death of over 5.4 million people. Despite the war being officially over, internal conflicts leading to violence have often been reported in the area.
US-Afghanistan War (2001-2021)
The Afghanistan War began in 2001 post the international conflict triggered by the September 11 attack. President George W. Bush launched an attack against the Taliban in Afghanistan with the aim to hunt down Osama bin Laden. After over 19 years of fighting, the war concluded with the Taliban regaining power against allied NATO and Afghan Armed Forces. The US-Afghanistan War is termed as the longest war in the US history.

After years of religious conflicts between Nigeria's Muslim and Christian communities, militant Islamist and jihadist rebel group Boko Haram started an armed rebellion against the government of Nigeria in 2009. As per reports, the primary motive of the militant group was to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state. While the militant rebel group gained power in the initial years, they have now been defeated. According to a 2019 report, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed stated that the military has ¡°successfully defeated¡± Boko Haram insurgents. In 2021, thousands of Boko Haram fighters surrendered and were taken into government compounds.

The Yemeni Civil War, which began in late 2014, continues to stay active even today. The ongoing multilateral civil war is being fought between Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi-led Yemeni government and the Houthi armed movement. Due to the ongoing unrest, Yemen is among the poorest countries with over 80% of its population living in poverty.
