Over 106 million travellers to Thailand had their personal details exposed online in August, as per AFP. A cybersecurity research company found this out but the leak was quickly plugged.?
Thailand is a popular tourist hub and almost 40 million visitors came in in 2019 before COVID resulted in travel restrictions.
Comparitech said in a report that Bob Diachenko, who heads the cybersecurity research, found a database that had the personal information of travellers.?
"Any foreigner who travelled to Thailand in the last decade might have had their information exposed in the incident," he said.?
This includes name, passport number and residency status.?
Comparitech said Diachenko also found his own name and details. The information on entries into Thailand dated back to 2011.?
Thai authorities were filled in on August 22 and secured the data one day later.?
"However we do not know how long the data was exposed prior to being indexed," the report said.
