It is a heartbreaking image - scores of empty baby strollers lined up in the city of Lviv in Ukraine as the country continues to mourn the growing number of civilians getting killed in Russian bombing every passing day.
The empty strollers on display at the historic Rynok Square in Lviv on Friday were in memory of the 109 children killed in Russian attacks since the war began.
Accordingly, there were a total of 109 baby strollers - one for each child killed since the start of the war, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi posted an image and a video of the installation on Friday.
"This is a terrible price of war that Ukraine is paying today," Sadovyi said. "We call on all adults around the world to stand as one shield to protect Ukrainian children and give them future."
"Remember your children when they were small and sitting in strollers like these," said Zhuravka Natalia Tonkovyt, a Canadian citizen of Ukrainian origin who was passing by, speaking as if to address Russian mothers.
"Some (children) will not be put into these strollers because they are dead. Compare it to your own children, remember your feelings towards your own children... I want to see no empty stroller," she added.
Lviv in western Ukraine has not been badly affected by the ongoing war and has emerged as a shelter to hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians fleeing the frontlines.
This is not the first time baby strollers have emerged as a powerful symbol of the plight of Ukrainian children, due to the ongoing war.
Recently a photo of empty strollers on a train platform in Poland had gone viral.
Photographer Francesco Malavolta captured the heartbreaking image on March 3, at the Przemysl train station in Poland, just eight miles from Ukraine's border.
The?strollers were brought to the station by mothers?and women associations for Ukrainian mothers who fled the war with their infants.
Ukrainian authorities on Friday said that 109 children have died in the violence, and more than 130 have been wounded.?
They however added that the real number of child victims could be much higher.
In addition to this, out of the 3.2 million people who have fled Ukraine since the war broke out last month, nearly half are said to be children.
