With homeownership out of reach for many millennials and Gen Zs due to inflated prices and high interest rates, young adults are turning to online retail giants for tiny pre-fab homes.
Lifestyle content creator Jeffrey Bryant, 23, from Los Angeles, excitedly shared on TikTok, ¡°Bitch, I just bought a house on Amazon.¡± He purchased a 16.5-by-20-foot shelter for over $26,000 using money from his late grandfather¡¯s estate.
The compact home features a kitchenette, living room, bedroom, and bathroom with pre-installed toilet and shower. Bryant was inspired by a YouTuber's unboxing video and quickly made his purchase.
¡°I saw this YouTuber unboxing his Amazon home,¡± said Bryant, ¡°and I ran to the website to get one, too.¡±
Nathan Graham, the 27-year-old influencer known for his kid-friendly gaming brand "Unspeakable," was the one to spark a viral trend in Amazon house shopping. His video showcasing his newly purchased $30,000 DIY home garnered immense attention, with over 88,000 people sharing their own Amazon home purchases under the viral hashtag #AmazonHome.
Graham, based in Houston, Texas, shared the ease of assembling the quaint living quarters with his friends, garnering over 20.4 million views on TikTok.??¡°Bro, this thing is so easy to build,¡± said the trendsetter, from Houston, Tex., as he and a gang of pals assembled the quaint living quarters. ¡°You literally just unfold it.¡±
The tiny house trend has seen a remarkable surge in popularity since the onset of the pandemic. While some minimalists have downsized from expansive homes to 500-square-foot tool sheds to accommodate their families, others have opted to forgo traditional housing altogether, converting large vehicles into their ideal living spaces.
¡°People my age are told that we can¡¯t afford to purchase homes, but I¡¯m proof that it is possible.¡±
