Amid Donald Trump's attempts to buy Greenland from Denmark, a Danish politician has hit out at the US President with a blunt response. Speaking in the European Parliament, Anders Vistisen, a right-wing lawmaker from Denmark, also used some unparliamentary words to make his message clear.
¡°Dear President Trump, listen very carefully. Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It¡¯s an integrated part of our country. It is not for sale,¡± Vistisen said.
¡°Let me put it in words you might understand. Mr. Trump, f**k off!¡± the MEP added.
Vistisen, who posted a video of his comments inside the European Parliament, further reminded Trump that Greenland and Denmark had been together for more than double the time the US has existed as a country.
Earlier, Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede also made it clear that the Danish autonomous territory wanted to stake out its own future and did not want to become American.
"We are Greenlanders. We don't want to be Americans. We don't want to be Danish either. Greenland's future will be decided by Greenland," Egede said on Tuesday.
Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen also said that no country should be able to just help itself to another country.
"Of course, we can't have a world order where countries, if they're big enough, no matter what they're called, can just help themselves to what they want," Rasmussen said.
Over the past few weeks, Trump has angered many in Europe by suggesting that the US should buy Greenland from Denmark for national security reasons.
Days before his inauguration as US President, Trump had also refused to rule out military intervention to make Greenland a part of America.
