The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has released a video claiming to show the interior of one of the several tunnels used by the Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon. According to the IDF, the tunnel was located just a few kilometres from the border with Israel.?In the video, a female IDF soldier can be seen entering the tunnel, which, according to her, is a hundred metres long and is located underneath civilian houses.
"We are crossing the border into south Lebanon to see what Hezbollah has been doing in the villages of south Lebanon¡ªembedding itself underneath civilian houses, preparing for an October 7-style attack on northern Israel," the Israeli soldier said in the video.
According to her, the tunnel had iron doors, functioning rooms, guns including AK-47 rifles, a storage room for generators, water tanks, and two-wheelers.
She further described the tunnel as "nothing like we have seen in Gaza" and added that Hezbollah militants could hide there for weeks. She also showed that the exit of the tunnel was located inside a civilian house.
Hezbollah, like their allies in Gaza, Hamas, is known to use an extensive network of tunnels that often run through civilian areas to move their troops and store their ammunition, making it difficult for the IDF to intercept.
In recent days, since the IDF launched a ground operation in South Lebanon, the Israeli military has also uncovered a Hezbollah tunnel close to the observation tower of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the UN's peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.
The IDF has come under heavy criticism from several countries, including some Western nations, who termed IDF's attacks on the UN peacekeepers as an act of war crime. Five peacekeepers have been wounded in attacks since Israel began its ground campaign against Hezbollah.
