Monaco's reigning monarch Prince Albert?II?has tested positive for the coronavirus, it has been revealed.?
The 62-year-old's?COVID-19?diagnosis was revealed on March 19 by the Prince's Palace. The day before, the royal had said Monaco would go into lockdown to fight the virus, which the World Health Organization has declared a pandemic.
In a?statement, the Prince's Palace of?Monaco?said Albert had been tested at the start of the week and that his condition is not cause for any worry.
He is being treated by his doctor and specialists at the Princess Grace Hospital Centre.
"His Serene Highness urges the people of Monaco to respect containment measures and to limit contact with others to a minimum," said the palace. "Only the rigorous observance of these containment rules will stop the spread of the virus."??
With a population of fewer than 40,000, Monaco currently has at least seven?confirmed cases of the disease virus.??
The prince, 62, is among the world's wealthiest royals and has ruled Monaco since the death of his father, Rainier III, in 2005.?The princely palace has promised to provide regular updates on Albert's condition.?
Coronavirus has already affected many royal families. Spain's?King Felipe VI?and?Queen Letizia?were tested last week after Letizia met with a government minister who later came down with the illness. Both the King and Queen were found to be negative.??
The? pandemic has so far affected more than 200,000 people worldwide with number of death reported to be around 8000.
