Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head has tested positive for COVID-19 yet again, marking his third known infection since 2021. The news comes at a time when global COVID-19 cases are once again on the rise. The Australian batter's latest diagnosis delayed his travel to India, meaning he will miss SRH's crucial IPL 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants.
SRH's head coach Daniel Vettori confirmed Travis Head's COVID-19 diagnosis, saying, "He is coming in tomorrow morning; he was delayed. He actually had COVID, so he couldn*t travel" SRH currently sits in eighth place, with 11 points from 11 matches. The team is mathematically out of playoff contention.
Even before testing positive, Head wasn*t enjoying his best season. With only 281 runs to his name in IPL 2025, the otherwise fiery batter's form has been inconsistent. His absence for the LSG match adds to SRH*s woes, though he may be available for the final two games against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders.
News of Head*s third bout with COVID sparked reactions across social media. One fan quipped, "The world has moved to war; bro is stuck in the pandemic." Another joked, "Bro is on Internet Explorer." A third commented, "Travis Head contracting Covid-19 in 2025# man is just built different."
After being suspended on May 8 over Indo-Pak tensions, the IPL resumed on May 17. However, the comeback wasn*t smooth. The highly anticipated clash between RCB and KKR was abandoned due to rain in Bengaluru, continuing the streak of unpredictable disruptions this season.
Meanwhile, with Sunday's win, Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans secured a playoff spot with their win over Delhi Capitals, which also confirmed Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings in the top four, leaving just one spot open for Delhi, Mumbai Indians, or Lucknow Super Giants to claim in the final stretch.
