The 2024 Paris Olympics is just hours away from inauguration in the French capital. As some of the best athletes from across the world make themselves at home in Paris for the next couple of weeks, they were handed out the official kits on arrival at the Olympic Village.
One of the items in the kit was packs of condoms, adorned with images of Phryges, the hat-shaped mascot for the Paris Olympics.

And the packets have some catchy messages written all over them.
"No need to be a gold medalist to wear it!" read the caption on one of the packets.
"On the field of love, play fair," read another.
"Score a win, say yes to consent, no to STD," yet another one states.
According to reports, 20,000 female condoms, 200,000 male condoms, and 10,000 dental dams are to be distributed among the 14,500 athletes and their support staff converging in Paris.
This is a near-complete U-turn from the Paris 2024 organizers who had initially made headlines with anti-sex beds for athletes.

However, the Olympic Games have a long history of distributing free condoms and promoting safe sex. It was back in 1988 during the Seoul Olympics that condoms were distributed to competitors for the first time to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS.
Since then, all the Olympic Games have done the same with free condoms. The record for free condoms at an Olympics was set in 2016 in Rio when a whopping 450,000 of them were given away to athletes, which in other words meant 42 per competitor.
This year, the Games will feature a sexual health campaign that focuses on?pleasure and consent?as well as safety.
