Wildfires have been left burning unchecked in Siberia?because the Russian miliary units that usually deal with them have been relocated to fight in Ukraine.?Vast blazes have become an increasingly common occurrence in the region from spring to autumn.
?
"The current area of forest fires burning across Russia is twice as large as that of the same time last year, the Kommersant business daily reported this week, citing Greenpeace Russia. Fourteen regions of Russia have declared special fire regimes, with the most severe fires seen in Siberia and the Far East.
Many on Twitter have reacted sharply to this, criticising Russia for letting the forests burn for the sake of war in Ukraine. Take a look.?
Fires in?#Siberia?just might save?#Ukraine. To put out the growing forest fires?#Russia?will have to use aircrafts that are now bombing?#Ukraine. Question is what will?#putin?choose: less fires in?#Russia?or less attacks on?#Ukraine???pic.twitter.com/P75WoPfzQK
