A video has surfaced on social media showing a brawl between tourists for the best selfie spot on Mount Everest. The fight between two sets of couples, all believed to be Chinese, occurred on June 25 on the 8848 Viewing Platform in Tibet. According to local media reports, the fight broke out over who gets the best selfie spot while attempting to climb Mount Everest.
A tour guide had reportedly asked the parties to pose together for a photo beside the Everest Elevation Monument, but it soon turned into a chaotic fight after they couldn't agree on the best spot for it.

In the video that has gone viral, two men can be seen throwing punches at each other before they fall to the ground and continue their 'wrestling'. Two women accompanying them can also be seen trying to separate the two men. As other tourists continued to watch and film the fight, the Everest border police arrived at the scene and broke them up.
It is unclear whether any of the tourists involved in the brawl were injured, but they were taken into custody and are now being investigated over the fight.
While Mount Everest is located in Nepal, the world's tallest mountain is also accessible from China through Tibet. In fact, the northern route through Tibet is considered one of the safest and was widely popular among trekkers in the early 2000s. Since the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the northern route of Mount Everest had remained off-limits to foreign tourists. However, this changed earlier this year when China reopened access to Mount Everest via Tibet to foreign climbers.

Foreigners planning to climb Everest must obtain separate visas for Tibet, a semi-autonomous region of China, in addition to their tourist visas for China. The climbing season for Everest usually spans from late April to mid-May, and Ballinger's team will arrive in China on April 25 after pre-acclimatising at home to save time.
