They say that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and Republican U.S. Presidential candidate Donald Trump has found a new such ally. Former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has endorsed Trump's presidential bid in the 2024 U.S. Presidential elections. Gabbard, who appeared with Trump at a campaign rally in Detroit on Monday, said the former President ¡°understands the grave responsibility that a president and commander in chief bears for every single one of our lives.¡±
Gabbard praised Trump for ¡°having the courage to meet with adversaries, dictators, allies, and partners alike in the pursuit of peace, seeing war as a last resort.¡± The switchover of Gabbard, a National Guard veteran who served two tours of duty in the Middle East, from the Democrats to the Trump camp did not come as a surprise.
This is because last week it was reported that Trump had enlisted her help to prepare for the upcoming Presidential debate with his Democratic challenger Kamala Harris. Gabbard, who represented Hawaii in the U.S. House, has a history with Harris. Like the current U.S. Vice President, Gabbard was also in the running for the Democratic nominee for the Presidential election in 2020.
However, in March 2020, Gabbard dropped out of the race and endorsed Joe Biden. But before that, many also believe that she forced Harris to end her campaign. The duo was involved in a heated debate in July 2019 during a Democratic Primary, where Gabbard questioned Harris's record when she served as an Attorney General and District Attorney.?
Gabbard claimed that Harris¡¯s actions, including the imprisonment of over 1,500 people for marijuana violations, were inexcusable and even demanded an apology for those who suffered during her tenure as a prosecutor.?
This was the biggest blow to the Harris campaign, which was already struggling financially, and many believe she could never recover from the damage it had caused.
