They probably have no idea why they are hiding in an underground location away from home and why they can't just go out and play like they used to do until a few days ago.
The lives of millions of children like the rest of Ukraine have turned on its head in the past few days after Russia decided to invade the country.
Sine them many have taken refuge in bomb shelters to escape the Russian attacks.
The Ukraine Foreign Ministry has shared a heart-warming video showing a group of Ukrainian children singing a Kyiv anthem as they sit in a bomb shelter amid an attack on their city.
In the 23-second video, six kids are sitting in a circle, playing a game of cards and singing the anthem.
This is yet another example of the undying spirit the people of Ukraine have displayed even while facing the worst assault on the country.
In the past couple of days, other videos posted on social media showed people singing the national anthem while clearing the debris after their homes were hit by Russian rockets.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said at least 16 children have been killed and 45 wounded, among hundreds of casualties his country has suffered in the past six days since the Russian military operation began.
On Tuesday, it was reported that a 40-mile convoy of Russian tanks and other vehicles are marching towards the Ukrainian capital.
Six days into the invasion, the Russian military's movements have been stalled by fierce resistance on the ground and a surprising inability to dominate the airspace. Many Ukrainian civilians, meanwhile, spent another night huddled in shelters, basements or corridors.
"I sit and pray for these negotiations to end successfully, so that they reach an agreement to end the slaughter,'' said Alexandra Mikhailova, weeping as she clutched her cat in a shelter in Mariupol. Around her, parents tried to console children and keep them warm.
"I believe Russia is trying to put pressure (on Ukraine) with this simple method," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Kyiv remained "a key goal'' for the Russians, Zelenskyy said, noting that it was hit by three missile strikes on Monday and that hundreds of saboteurs were roaming the city.
"They want to break our nationhood, that's why the capital is constantly under threat,'' Zelenskyy said.
