A 28-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, Anigar Monsee, faced arrest after allegedly torturing and killing animals live on YouTube in an attempt to boost her followership.
According to the New York Post, Monsee admitted to torturing and mutilating live animals. She is charged over four livestream videos on her channel, where she allegedly inflicted harm on a live chicken, pigeon, rabbit, and frogs. Monsee reportedly sought more likes and followers from her 20,000 subscribers during these acts.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt expressed his shock, calling the actions "barbaric" and "inhumane." He highlighted the concerning aspect of soliciting and encouraging such behavior.
In her recent video titled "Cooking Lucky," it?showed her using a knife to slice a chicken's neck over a kitchen sink as the distressed animal tried to flee.?The distressing video was posted shortly before her arrest last Friday.
"During the video, she is soliciting more likes and more viewers. And once she gets to the point where she is satisfied with the number of likes, she then proceeds -- over the course of 10 minutes -- to harm and ultimately kill that chicken," explained Bernhardt.
Other clips reportedly showed Monsee dismembering frogs and plucking a live pigeon's feathers before subjecting it to scalding water and decapitation. Additionally, she is accused of using a "dull knife" to torture a rabbit to death in another video.
Monsee faces four felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
The investigation began with an email tip from the animal rights group People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Bernhardt praised PETA for their role in gathering information.Authorities are still probing to ascertain if others were involved in producing these videos.
Meanwhile, Monsee is in custody on a $200,000 bail.PETA's Kristen Rickman stressed the importance of preventing such behavior from continuing, stating, "The best we can do is just to honor them by making sure this kind of behavior does not continue, and that more animals aren't made victims."
