Another video showcasing a "gaffe" by US President Joe Biden went viral on Wednesday after he mistakenly welcomed world leaders to Washington while delivering a speech in Manhattan, New York.?
Reports highlighted that Biden, while speaking at the Inter-Continental New York Barclay hotel, made the slip-up in front of a gathering of international leaders.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you. Welcome to Washington," the 81-year-old US President said during his remarks.
Biden¡¯s speech, intended to reaffirm Western support for Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia, came during the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He addressed global leaders, emphasizing their collective support for Ukraine¡¯s recovery.
¡°Fellow leaders, friends, for 944 days [Russian President Vladimir] Putin has waged his vicious onslaught against Ukraine. Ukrainian people have stood unwavering, unbroken, and unbowed. Today, we are launching a joint declaration of support for Ukraine recovery and reconstruction to make it clear we stand with Ukraine,¡± Biden said. The event also preceded remarks from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as per a report by the New York Post.
On the same day, the US announced a fresh military aid package for Ukraine, valued at $375 million. This package includes artillery and rocket ammunition, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weaponry, according to Bloomberg.
In a previous incident, Biden made headlines with another awkward gaffe involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During a NATO summit in July, Biden accidentally referred to Zelenskyy as "President Putin," shocking the gathered leaders.
¡°And now I want to hand it over to the president of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination. Ladies and gentlemen, President Putin,¡± Biden said during the summit, prompting gasps from the audience.
He quickly attempted to recover from the mistake, saying, "President Putin? You're going to beat President Putin. President Zelenskyy. I'm so focused on beating Putin we got to worry about it, anyway. Mr President."
This was not Biden's only mix-up at the time. During a press conference that followed, he mistakenly referred to his Vice President Kamala Harris as his political rival Donald Trump.
The July NATO summit came during a critical period when Biden was still a contender in the presidential race. However, after a less-than-stellar debate against Donald Trump on July 27, fellow Democrats grew concerned about Biden¡¯s campaign. These concerns eventually led to Biden stepping aside and supporting Vice President Kamala Harris as the party¡¯s 2024 presidential candidate.
In yet another mix-up, Biden experienced an embarrassing moment at a Quad event in Wilmington, Delaware, where he struggled to introduce India¡¯s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After finishing his remarks at the Cancer Moonshot event last week, Biden seemed unsure about who was next to speak. He looked to his staff for assistance, saying, "So, I want to thank you all for being here. And now, who am I introducing next?" A brief silence followed, after which Biden, sounding more urgent, repeated, "Who's next?"
?Eventually, a staff member indicated to the podium, where Prime Minister Modi was set to speak. The announcer then took over, saying, "Distinguished guests, the Prime Minister of the Republic of India," allowing Modi to take the stage. Biden later embraced Modi, making a light-hearted comment as they shared the moment.
