Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Wednesday?made an appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists' annual convention in Chicago, where he got into a confrontation when questioned about his past comments on Black journalists calling them 'losers', 'stupid'.?
When ABC's Rachel Scott asked the former president why Black voters should trust him after how he had attacked them, Trump went on a tirade about how he was being treated there.?
?"First of all, I don't think I have ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner, the first question. You don't even say Hello! how are you? Are you with ABC? Because I think they are a fake news network and a terrible network. And I think it's disgraceful that I came here in good spirit. I love the Black population of this country. I have done so much for the Black population of the country, including employment..." Donald Trump said."It was very rude introduction," the former president said adding that he was invited to the convention under a false pretense that his opponent -- whether Biden or Kamala -- would be here. "And I don't see my opponent here," Trump said.
Trump also launched an all-out attack on his opponent, US Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, questioning her racial identity.?
Trump raised the question of whether Harris was ¡°Indian or Black.¡±
The 59-year-old is of mixed racial heritage, with her mother being Indian and her father Jamaican. However, according to Trump, Harris had only emphasized her Asian-American heritage until recently, when he claimed, "she became a Black person."

¡°I've known her a long time, indirectly, not directly very much, and she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black," Trump said.
"So I don't know¡ªIs she Indian? Or is she Black?" he asked further.
When one of the journalists who was interviewing Trump on stage tried to tell him that Harris had always identified as Black and had attended a historically Black university, the former president continued: ¡°I respect either one, but she obviously doesn't. Because she was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden, she made a turn, and she went¡ªshe became a Black person. And I think somebody should look into that too.¡±
Many believe that projecting Harris as a black person could work in her favour in the elections in November.?

Ever since it became clear that Harris was replacing Joe Biden as the Democratic Party candidate, Trump and other Republicans, who had been attacking the incumbent US president on his advanced age and poor health, had to switch tracks and come up with a new line of attack.
Many, including Trump, soon latched onto her racial identity, and some even called Harris a "DEI hire" and "DEI vice president."
When asked if he believed Harris was a "DEI hire," Trump replied, "I really don't know, could be."
