You know the saying, always the bridesmaid, never the bride. However, one woman turned that stigma into a business.?The woman is named Jen Glantz, and she has worked as a professional bridesmaid for nine years.
Glantz¡¯s unique gig usually starts with Zoom calls with a bride-to-be to answer any questions, practice their backstory and address any anticipated challenges. She may try on bridesmaid dresses, write maid of honor speeches and film TikTok videos to help with audience engagement.? ??
In a video posted on Instagram by a page called bridesmaid for hire, Glantz, who resides in New York, talks about her profession and what prompted her to choose this.
According to? Glantz, she started her career because many friends asked her to be a bridesmaid at their wedding, which made her think that there might be more people in the world needing someone like her. That was the start of her business.
"All of my friends in my early twenties got engaged and I was always the bridesmaid," Glantz told CBS2 News This Morning's Suzanne Marques. "And that is when I started to realize that there is nobody in the $72 billion wedding industry whose job it is to be there for the people getting married."
Glantz then decided to advertise her services as a professional Bridesmaid. She received more than 300 responses.
Her bridesmaid services are priced at 2,500 dollars, which includes everything ¨C meaning, Jen attends the bachelorette parties, even the 4 am calls for nervous and anxious brides.?Writing vows, dress shopping, squashing drama ¡ª you name it, Glantz has done it.
Bridesmaid for Hire even offers wedding vent sessions for $200 if you need a one-hour call to just get it all out there.
She said she is the ¡°on-call therapist, the personal assistant, the social director, and the peacekeeper¡± who handles everything that a wedding entails. "Part of my job is to keep it a complete secret, to have a fake name, a fake backstory on how I know the bride, and sometimes even change how I look," Glantz said.
Her company also offers packages for couples, maids of honor and wedding day coordination. In total, Glantz has worked over 125 weddings. She¡¯s also worked with dozens of freelance bridesmaids and has had more than 1,00,000 people apply for the role.?
Here's one secret she's willing to share after attending hundreds of weddings."I will tell you that there are only three things that really matter, that people really enjoy," Glantz said.
"Number one is good food. Number two is an open bar. And number three is the entertainment and the music. Everything else, people don't remember."
In addition to launching the world¡¯s first service where strangers can hire a professional bridesmaid, Glantz is also an author, including ¡°Always a Bridesmaid (For Hire)¡± (Simon & Schuster) as well as the podcast host for ¡°You¡¯re Not Getting Any Younger¡± and content creator for JenGlantz.com.
