After months of intense political campaigning that saw numerous instances of name-calling, allegations and counter-allegations, and questions about the incumbent president's health, as the dust settles, the United States is in the midst of a transition from the Biden administration to the Trump administration, which will take charge on January 5, 2025.??
Unlike in 2020, when the then-incumbent president refused to accept the election result and cooperate in the transition process, his successor has promised it will be much smoother.??
US President Biden and his successor, Trump, met at the White House for the first time since the election on Wednesday, where the two discussed the presidential transition among other matters.??
"Welcome back," Biden told Trump as the two leaders sat together, promising a smooth transition.??
Trump responded by appreciating Biden's offer and reiterated that the transition will be as smooth as possible. He also admitted that politics can be tough. "It is, in many cases, not a nice world, but it is a nice world today," he said.??
"Today, President Biden met with President-elect Trump for approximately two hours in the Oval Office. White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients and incoming Chief of Staff Susie Wiles joined the meeting. It was a substantive meeting and exchange of views," White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.??
"They discussed important national security and domestic policy issues facing the nation and the world. President Biden also raised important items on Congress's to-do list for the lame-duck session, including funding the government and providing the disaster supplemental funding the president requested," she said.??
"Finally, the president reiterated what he said to the president-elect the day after the election and to the American people in the Rose Garden just last week: We will have an orderly transition and a peaceful transition of power," Jean-Pierre said.
