The WHO emergencies chief has appealed for "extreme caution'' while completely lifting restrictions that aim to keep the spread of COVID in check, as per AP.?
He warned that once places opened up, the virus could be transmitted quicker.??
Dr Michael Ryan raised this during a WHO news conference.?
It was in response to Britain's decision to ease restrictions despite the rise in cases.
"Every country right now is lifting restrictions in one way or the other'' he said.?
"Transmission will increase when you open up,'' he added.?
Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO's technical lead on Covid, said several factors were driving the transmission.?
"The virus is showing us right now that it's thriving,'' she said.?
"This is not theoretical,'' she added.?
Worldwide there are almost 18.6 crore cases and over 40 lakh deaths.?
More than 17 crore have recovered. ???
