Making it 2 out of 2 wins in a row, the India U19 Women's cricket team is on a roll. In their clash against host Malaysia at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the Women in Blue put on a strong show, securing a comprehensive 10-wicket victory in record time.
The visitors first bowled out Malaysia for a meager 31 in 14.3 overs, thanks to Vaishnavi Sharma's remarkable bowling figures of 5/5 and Ayushi Shukla's 3/8. India then chased down the target with ease in just 2.5 overs, finishing at 32/0.
The debut left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma stunned everyone by taking a hat-trick, helping to wrap things up in under 18 overs. Sharma's figures are the best in the tournament's history.
On a pitch offering significant turn and bounce, Vaishnavi made full use of the conditions. Her hat-trick victims were Nur Ain Binti Roslan, Nur Isma Dania, and Siti Nazwah, with the feat completed in the 14th over as Malaysia fell further to 30 for 9.?
Earlier, she had removed Malaysia's skipper Nur Syuhada and Nuriman, with none of the batters able to reach double digits. Despite India conceding 10 wides, Malaysia's total would have been even lower without those extra runs.??
"I had visualized getting wickets last night, and to achieve a hat-trick and a five-wicket haul on debut feels like a dream. My journey has had its ups and downs," Vaishnavi said after the match.
In response, India chased down the small target in just 2.5 overs. G Trisha played a blistering knock of 27 off 12 balls, smashing five fours.?This is however, not the lowest T20I total. In a women's T20I, it remains 6, shared by the Maldives and Mali, while in the men's game, Ivory Coast holds the record with just 7 runs.
Currently, the defending champions lead their group with four points, tied with Sri Lanka but with a better Net Run Rate (+9.1 to Lanka's +5.5).
