This is what a comeback from injury looks like! Mohammed Shami, who suffered an ankle injury in 2023 and missed the entire 2024 cricket season, has made a steady and determined return to the game. He worked his way through domestic cricket before earning his spot in the series against England.
He was taken to the Champions Trophy to Dubai, but many were skeptical about his form¡ªgiven his long absence and recovery from injury. However, Shami once again proved why he is a different beast in ICC tournaments.
In the Champions Trophy 2025, Shami led India's pace attack in the playing XI, missing the usual support of his duo, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Despite this, he came out firing in the very first over. He struck early, dismissing Soumya Sarkar for a duck after five balls. Then, in the sixth over, he returned to send Mehidy Hasan Miraz back for 5 off 10 balls.
Seeing Shami bowl at full throttle and dismantle Bangladesh's batting lineup was a treat for fans who had been eagerly waiting for his return to peak form.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), fans expressed their excitement. One said, "Can I say shami is officially back?"
Another said, "Goat shami is back"
One wrote, "Shami Saab is back!!"
Another stated, "ICC tournament Mohammed Shami is back. We¡¯re alive"
The Indian team is rejoicing as they have already taken five wickets in the Powerplay, restricting Bangladesh to just 39 runs in 10 overs.?Mohammed Shami and Axar Patel picked up two wickets each, while Harshit Rana claimed one. Axar was on a hat-trick, but Rohit Sharma dropped a catch, denying him the chance to secure three wickets in three balls.
