Cometh ICC events, cometh Shami! Pacer Mohammed Shami continues to prove why he is a different beast in ICC tournaments. In the clash against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, he picked up a stunning five-wicket haul.
Shami led India's pace attack in the playing XI, missing the usual support of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. He came out firing in the very first over, dismissing Soumya Sarkar for a duck after five balls. Then he returned to send Mehidy Hasan Miraz back for 5 off 10 balls. Later, he claimed the wickets of Jaker Ali (68 off 114), Tanzim Hasan Sakib (0 off 4), and Taskin Ahmed (3 off 6).
With this 5-fer, he became the?fastest bowler for India to scalp 200 ODI wickets.?Watching Shami do what he does best left fans overjoyed. While he may not yet be in the same rhythm he had pre-surgery, he has made the most of his game time to improve, culminating in this five-wicket haul.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), fans shared their excitement. One wrote, "Mohammed Shami and ICC tournaments¡ªa match made in heaven."
Another said, "Since his comeback, Mohammed Shami's bowling has been exceptional. Now, he has become the fastest bowler to take 200 ODI wickets."
One fan praised his spell, writing, "Mohammed Shami on fire! What a sensational spell! He has ripped through Bangladesh¡¯s batting lineup, claiming five wickets with sheer class and precision! His lethal pace and deadly swing are turning this match into a masterclass in fast bowling! Take a bow, Shami!"
At one point, Bangladesh was struggling at 35/5, but they managed to post 228, thanks to Towhid Hridoy's brilliant 100 off 118 balls and his partnership with Jaker Ali, who scored 68 off 114. Can Bangladesh pull off an upset against India? That remains to be seen.
Apart from Shami's five-wicket haul, Harshit Rana picked up three wickets, while Axar Patel claimed two. Axar was on a hat-trick, but a dropped catch by Rohit Sharma denied him the chance to secure three wickets in three balls.
