As coronavirus pandemic continues to put life at a standstill across the globe, the lockdown in place has ensured people have to stick around within the walls of their homes.?
While the crises has halted the businesses, schools, colleges, and has also altered everyone's daily routine, UAE is coming up with imaginative initiative to help its citizens to cope with the difficult circumstances.?
In order to lift the spirits and gloom, Dubai Sports Council (DSC), in collaboration with ASICS Middle East and 5:30 Run club has launched a first of its kind initiative called 'Marathon At Home',?which will take place under the umbrella of DSC¡¯s ¡®Be Fit, Be Safe¡¯ and #stayhome campaigns.?
The unique drive is aimed to keep the residents of Dubai fit and in good shape during the lockdown. An intriguing fitness challenge will see an innovative way of getting people to participate in the marathon.?
The never seen before, 'Marathon at Home' will be a timed 42.192 Km race and will be open to people of all ages and abilities, and will take place on Friday, April 10, between 8am and 6pm, UAE time, with a 10-hour time cap.??
Here is what people?will have too keep in mind before taking the challenge:?
* All the participants who will take part?can decide the shape of their running course but running on a treadmill or any other training equipment will not be acceptable,?
* With lockdown in place, running in public areas is barred. The participant?will need to physically run on ground and inside their house .?
*?The participants will also have to make sure that they have a fully charged smartwatch or smartphone, with the Strava app installed and activated. They will have to join the 'Marathon at Home' group on Strava and stay connected as the app will detect their movement and will assist in keeping track of their timing and distance traveled.??
The challenge doesn't come without its fair share of prizes. There won't be an official finish line or medal ceremony, but there are still lot of prizes up for grabs.?
Top three men and women to finish will receive a fully equipped running kit, as well as a finisher medal and an entry ticket to the Moscow Marathon, which is set to take place in September. The top 10 finishers will receive 10 Electrical Muscle Stimulation functional training sessions. Additionally, all finishers will receive a finisher medal, certificate and T-shirt.??
