1998 Asian Games gold medallist Dingko Singh is currently undergoing treatment for cancer in his bile duct. After a chemotherapy session in Imphal, it was revealed that he had lost 70 per cent of his liver as it had to be removed.
When Gambhir learnt of his plight, he came out in support of him financially. The southpaw said that there were many ways the boxer could be helped by the country.
However, he was quick to point out he did not want to advertise or poblicise what he was doing.
Dingko has also received the Arjuna award along with the Padma Shri.

Earlier Dingko was receiving treatment at Delhi and had spent over 10 lakhs. Due to financial instability, it was reported that he had sold some of his properties, including his house over the course of his treatment and thereby Dingko shall be moving to their ancestral house which is an hour¡¯s drive from Imphal.
Sports Minister Vijay Goel has pledged all support to Dingko but by then it was too late for the announcement and Dingko had been shifted to Imphal.
The man is a hero without a doubt, one hopes that he gets all the help he needs. After all, if we don't look after out sportsmen, who will?
