In a major tragic incident seven Manchester United fans were killed due to mass electrocution in Nigeria while watching their team's 2-1 Europa League victory over Anderlecht.
The incident happened at a viewing centre in Calabar in the Cross River State. Several have been injured.
Police said that an electrical cable fell on the structure resulting in the casualties. 10 others are being treated for serious injuries.
This is what the police's statement said:
Around 10 pm we were called that an incident that has happened so immediately our men went there. Until this morning we have about seven persons dead, we have 10 that have been admitted to hospital and another one in intensive care. According to the information we gathered the high tension electric cable that was very close to the viewing centre fell on the building.?

According to Nigeria's Premium Times, the viewing centre ?was made of corrugated zinc.
Manchester United issued a statement where they condoled the deaths of their fans.
It is a dark chapter and will go down in the history of football as a sad day.
¡°At this point in time, it is sad to know that the victims lost their lives at a viewing centre where they usually converge, at their leisure time to watch their matches,¡± said Ben Ayade, the governor of Cross River State.
