The recent mockery of Virat Kohli's injury in the India-Australia Ranchi Test has really overstepped the bounds.
BCCI
First we saw Glenn Maxwell imitating Virat Kohli's shoulder injury while diving a ball. Then Kohli used the same gesture to take a dig at Maxwell when David Warner departed cheaply.
Our mind drifts back to the 7th ODI between India and Australia in Bengaluru in 2013. Shane Watson had injured his leg but continued to bat.?
BCCI
At this point Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina decided to imitate Watson. Dhawan pretended to limp while Raina checked his knee as if to look for damages. A surprised Watson was clearly disgusted and shook his head to indicate the displeasure he felt.
This was when MS Dhoni stepped in. How did he react. He gestured to his men to end the topic then and there and continue with game. He was having none of this nonsense.
So, could Steve Smith not have taken a leaf from his book? Could the skipper not have admonished Maxwell for the gesture. After all, an injury is nothing to laugh at!
History is a good teacher and the Dhoni incident shows exactly what a skipper should do in this situation.
