The 2021 Australian Open final proved to be anything but a contest. Novak Djokovic demolished Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to clinch the title and start 2021 off with a bang.?
He won 7-5, 6-2, 6-2. As a result, he won his 9th Australian Open title and this was his 18th Grand Slam overall. The 33-year-old is one step closer to the record tally of 20 which is shared by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Nadal himself was knocked out in the quarters. Federer did not play. The next Grand Slam is the French Open. Djokovic and Nadal are definitely playing while Federer as of now is expected to play. So either Djokovic shall get closer, or one of the other two shall surge ahead or someone else will come to the party.?
For Federer time is running out as he turns 40 this year. The man may retire by the end of the year and if Djokovic keeps up his form all three could be on 20 Grand Slams apiece by the end of 2021. Let's wait and watch. ???
