March 8 - International Women's Day. India vs Australia in the Women's T20 World Cup final in Melbourne. One side looking to make history, the other aiming to retain the title on home soil. For the Indian team, it was a chance to win a maiden title and that too on the day that celebrates the gender.?
But alas it was not to be. Chasing a target of 185, the Women in Blue managed just 99. The side that was unbeaten in the league stage, got into the final after the semifinal was washed out due to a better group position, faltered in the title clash. But they have given us enough reason to be proud of them.?
They may not have brought home the Cup, but these ladies who left our shores last month, are nothing short of champions in their minds. So what if they lost the final? They won hearts, proved to be equals and showed the world that women's cricket in India had come of age.?

However, this does not undo the efforts of the players themselves. The likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Shafali Verma, Poonam Yadav, Radha Yadav, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma etc have upped their game and this team certainly has the potential to win big in the future as well.?
So ladies, come back with your heads held high. You have nothing to be ashamed of, you have done us proud. You are winners in your country and the fact that you made it to the final proves you have what it takes to do well. The nation is proud of you and you deserve all the praise you are getting. ?
