India's medal tally at the Paris Paralympics 2024 was significantly boosted on Saturday, September 7, when Navdeep Singh and Simran Sharma secured medals in their respective events. Simran won bronze in the women¡¯s 200m T12 event with a timing of 24.75 seconds, making up for a missed opportunity in the 100m race earlier in the competition.
Navdeep Singh brought home a historic gold in the men¡¯s javelin throw F41 event. He initially secured silver with a throw of 47.32m, setting a new Paralympic record. However, his medal was later upgraded to gold following the disqualification of Iran¡¯s Beit Sadgeh, who had thrown 47.64m. The Paris Paralympics committee nullified Sadgeh's throw for unsporting conduct, elevating Navdeep¡¯s record-breaking third attempt to gold status. This victory marked India¡¯s first-ever gold in the F41 javelin category.
In para canoe, Yash Kumar could not progress beyond the semi-final in the Men¡¯s Kayak Single 200m - KL1 event, clocking a time of 1:02.03 to finish last. Meanwhile, Prachi Yadav qualified for the final of the women¡¯s Va¡¯a Single 200m but managed only an eighth-place finish, recording a time of 1:08.55. Dilip Mahadu Gavit also finished eighth in the men¡¯s 400m T46 event, with a time of 49.99 seconds.
