India's para-athletes continued with their record-breaking medal haul in the Paralympics as Praveen Kumar added one more gold to the Indian tally. With this, India now has won a grand total of 27 medals, including six golds, the country's best outing in the Paralympics so far.
The star of the show for India on Friday was Praveen Kumar, who won the gold medal for the country in the men's high jump T64 final. In the process, Praveen also set a new Asian record with a jump of 2.08 metres.
T64 is for athletes with movement moderately affected in one lower leg or the absence of one or both legs below the knee.
The 21-year-old from Noida was born with a short leg. His impairment, which is congenital, affects the bones that connect his hip to his left leg.
He started playing sports to deal with his insecurities and began with volleyball before realising his true potential in the high jump.
Praveen, who had won silver at the Tokyo Games three years ago, is also the 2023 World Championship bronze medallist.
India's second medal of the day was bagged by Hokato Hotozhe Sema, who won a bronze in the final of the men's shot put F57 final on Saturday.
In the medal match, Hokato recorded the best throw of 14.65 m, which is also his personal best now.
