The moment Anil Kumble stepped down as Team India coach, only one name started doing the rounds - Ravi Shastri. Then came the point where Shastri didn't want to apply for the position because he wanted to jump the queue. He basically didn't want to go through the screening process with the Cricket Advisory Committee.
But he finally changed his mind and applied. But why? He has explained the reason.
In an interview, the former cricketer explained, ¡°I didn¡¯t apply in the first place. What did make me apply was when I realised that there was a huge problem there. Initially, I didn¡¯t reply but I didn¡¯t realise how serious the issues were.¡±
He further explained his point and said, ¡°Therefore, when the BCCI reopened the application window, I gave it a thought and said to myself, ¡®you must apply because you have been instrumental in the appointment of your support staff and have seen where your team has risen to. Now, you can also see in front of your eyes that there is a problem, so instead of backing away from it, take it head on.¡±
Shastri will have a lot of work to do when it comes to the Indian cricket team. Hopefully, his stint with Virat Kohli works wonders for India.
