World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Famer The Undertaker has described the shocking loss of the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes, to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 as the "greatest ever" booking decision. Speaking on the Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker said Rhodes, whom the WWE universe was expecting to win, losing at the grandest stage of them all, was the right decision.??
"I mean, Roman was well on his way before Cody even got there. I mean, he already had a tremendous title run," Undertaker explained. "So I don't know that it means as much without Roman. I mean, Roman's top of the food chain... [It was] the greatest decision, I think, ever," The Undertaker said.??
According to the wrestling legend, Rhodes' emotional WrestleMania 40 victory would not have been possible without what happened a year before at WrestleMania 39.??
Rhodes, the son of wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes, had returned to WWE in 2022 after being away from the company for nearly six years. Rhodes, who won the Royal Rumble, had set his eyes on the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship held by Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.??
However, Reigns retained his belt at WrestleMania 39, thanks to interference from Solo Sikoa, a decision that has polarised the WWE universe ever since.??
Many argued that Rhodes should have been allowed to "finish the story" at WrestleMania 39.?
The second-generation WWE superstar finally got this opportunity to "finish the story" at WrestleMania 40 by defeating Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and capturing his first world title in WWE.??
Since then, Rhodes has successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against the likes of AJ Styles, Logan Paul, Kevin Owens, and Solo Sikoa.
