An Italian football referee has received a one-year ban after he lost his temper resulting in him head-butting a goalkeeper he had sent off during a minor league came earlier in the month. This was reported by ANSA news agency.
The match was between Borgo Mogliano and Montottone on February 1. Referee Antonio Martiniello gave Borgo Mogliano keeper Matteo Ciccioli a red card.
When the keeper asked him for an explanation outside the changing room, Martiniello head-butted Ciccioli. He had to be taken to hospital.
The ban means he cannot officiate in matches for a year and also will not be able to enter the facilities of teams in the top three tiers of Italian football and also matches involving the national side.?
The Macerata police chief's office said the ban was justified as this set a bad example for young people.
What was this man thinking? Just shows referees can go off the rails too, but next time think of the consequences before you take action.?
