When Virat Kohli walks onto the field on March 4 vs Sri Lanka, he will be playing his 100th Test. The journey that began in 2011 will reach a major milestone. 100 Tests is no joke and no player deserves it more than Kohli in recent times.??
What would really make the occasion one to remember would be a century. He has not hit an international century for over 2 years and now the tally of innings without a ton has touched 70.
Kohli's last 100 came vs Bangladesh in 2019. It was the Day/Night Test in Kolkata. Since then, while he has scored the odd 50, the 100 has eluded him in all formats. It has been over 27 months and even if we take away the 9 months India did not play cricket due to COVID, that still leaves 18 months without a 100.?
Sri Lanka are not the strongest in the world at the moment and maybe that is just what Kohli needs to get back into the habit of scoring tons. He has had a break of 2 weeks or so to get himself back into the groove and now shall be raring to go.?
If he does break the jinx, will be good news for India, new skipper Rohit Sharma, the fans and of course cricket in general. When the best batter in the world of the current generation gets back into form, the world sits up and takes notice.?
It takes just one innings which is long overdue. What better time to fill in one's dues than a 100th Test. After all, one does not play 100 Tests every day and one certainly does not score a century in one's 100th Test every day either. ?????
