India began it's Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a win over Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In the clash, India skipper Rohit Sharma etched his name in history by becoming the second-fastest batter to reach 11,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs).
The Indian captain achieved this milestone in just 261 ODI innings, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who took 276 innings. However, Virat Kohli remains the fastest to achieve the feat, having done so in just 222 innings.
Former Indian opener and Champions Trophy legend Shikhar Dhawan, who was present at the venue and even joined the commentary panel praised his opening partner Rohit Sharma. When the 'Hitman' smashed a boundary, Dhawan used a famous phrase to compare him to a diamond saying, "Kisi ke naak me heera, kisi ke kaan me heera. Mujhe heero se matlab kya, mera to yaar hi hain Heera."
The Indian skipper's form had been under scrutiny before the Champions Trophy. It was due to his lackluster performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. However, he silenced critics with a stellar century in the second ODI against England. At Cuttack's Barabati Stadium, he powered his way to a century off just 76 balls, scoring 119 off 90 deliveries, including 12 fours and seven sixes, leading India to chase 305 with 33 balls to spare.
Despite struggling during the Australian tour, where he only reached double digits once, Rohit found his rhythm against England. His resurgence provided India with much-needed confidence heading into the Champions Trophy.
