There cannot be better news for fans who once rooted for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals -- both teams will make a return next year after serving a two-year ban. Yes, you heard that right as BCCI CEO Rahul Johri just confirmed the news. Johri also added Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions would be scrapped from next year. Both CSK and RR were given two-year bans as they failed to give their financial clearances.?
And, according to reports, it is believed that next year there will be open auctions as no franchise would be allowed to retain any players.
In an interview, Johri quoted, "The ban on Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals will be lifted next year. Therefore, both teams will return in the next edition of the IPL. The BCCI is in no mood to increase the number of teams in the IPL. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals will replace Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions in the next edition of the IPL. To increase the popularity of IPL in small towns and cities, fan parks will be created in such areas. Every match of the IPL is viewed by 20 lakhs people online."
