Wrestling legend John 'Bradshaw' Layfield, better known as JBL, has revealed that he would like to have one more reign as a world champion. The 57-year-old said he is one clothesline away from winning the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
"I always wanted to be NWA champion. I¡¯m still just one clothesline away," Bradshaw said on X.
The NWA World Heavyweight Championship, owned and promoted by the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), is one of the oldest and most prestigious championships in professional wrestling.
Ever since its inception in 1948, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship has been worn by some of the greatest names in the sport, including Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Sting, AJ Styles, and more. The NWA World Heavyweight Championship has been associated with almost all major wrestling promotions in the US, including WCW, ECW, ROH, and TNA.
JBL, who is a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and held the belt for a then-record 280 days, retired as a full-time wrestler in 2009, though he continues to make sporadic appearances even now.
JBL continues to be associated with the WWE as a commentator and is also a WWE Hall of Famer.
In 2024, JBL also appeared on shows by several wrestling promotions, including Lucha Libre, Game Changer Wrestling, TNA, and Major League Wrestling.
Before his successful singles run, JBL, then called Bradshaw, was one-half of the Acolytes Protection Agency (APA) along with Ron Simmons and made a name for themselves as enforcers.
JBL is also a highly influential figure due to his real-life proximity to the likes of The Undertaker. The duo, along with some other senior WWE wrestlers, ran the infamous wrestler's court, where The Undertaker served as the judge and matters, including disputes between wrestlers, were settled, often with the penalised star being forced to buy liquor for all of them as punishment.
