Thurrott.com meanwhile claims its sources indicate the newest Xbox will arrive in 2020. This is even as other reports emerge that Microsoft is working on a ¡°family of devices¡± under the codename Scarlett . This ties in with Spencer¡¯s comment, where he said? ¡°consoles¡± in the plural as opposed to the singular.
It¡¯s still unclear what kind of devices these will be, aside from the obvious boosts in performance expected from a new lineup. They¡¯re likely going to be heavily focused on streaming and cross-platform compatibility though, seeing, as Microsoft just launched a service to stream console quality games to your smartphone.
Aside from that, one thing for sure is that the Xbox consoles will support backward compatibility, at least for existing games on the Xbox One, perhaps even the Xbox 360. The ¡°family of devices¡± themselves could include the obvious standard console, a possible AR/VR-focused edition, and perhaps a slimmer budget-friendly version too.
