Today's the day when the?OnePlus 5T?finally went on sale, barely a week after it was launched, replacing the popular?five-month old OnePlus 5.
Popularly hailed as the "flagship killer," OnePlus 5T has a lot of similarity with the OnePlus 5. But there's quite a few new tricks up its sleeve. Oh yeah!
It doesn't have the sophisticated face mapping that the iPhone X's Face ID does, but the OnePlus 5T deploys a Face Unlock feature that's very quick. Literally, you take a picture of your face, wake the display, look at it and just like that the screen unlocks. It's literally blink-and-miss, works flawlessly. Haven't tried defeating it with a picture yet, though.
(L) OnePlus 5T, (R) OnePlus 5 -- Which one has a bigger display?
With less than 24 hours spent on the device, one thing is certain -- the OnePlus 5T's 2160x1080 display is significantly larger than the 1920x1080 screen found on the OnePlus 5. It's bright, uniformly lit, and thankfully doesn't suffer from any of the blue colourshift issues I most recently encountered on the Google Pixel 2 XL.
The rectangular fingerprint sensor on the front bezel of the OnePlus 5 has now become circular and sits on the rear panel of the OnePlus 5T. I think this back panel placement works better, feels more intuitive, with lesser instances of misfiring.
Black OnePlus 5T vs Gold OnePlus 5
One of the disappointments with the OnePlus 5T is that it doesn't deviate a lot from the OnePlus 5 launched in July this year. That's great news for OP5 users, but OP5T users trying to differentiate from the pack may not be too happy.?
The iPhone did away with it last year, Google's Pixel 2 followed suit with the trend this year. But not OnePlus! They're not jumping on the bandwagon just yet, not quite ready to banish the poor old 3.5 mm jack into history books. For now, my favourite wired headphone is happy.
This is just a quick first impression of the OnePlus 5T. Stay tuned for our full review soon.
