If you frequent Airbnb properties and have troublemaker friends, you might not like what I'm about to tell you.?Airbnb is officially banning some users simply based on their association with other users.
Once banned simply based on association, the user can only return to the platform if their so-called troublemaker peer appeals the ban or if they're able to prove that they're not "closely associated."
Airbnb confirmed to Vice that the company often bans users simply because they "are likely to travel" with someone else who has already been banned, describing it as a "necessary safety precaution." ?
As a rental platform, it's natural for Airbnb to worry about the safety of guests and hosts. The company has permanently banned parties after a string of shootings and deaths. Airbnb has also threatened users who break this rule with legal action.

But this process can be extremely frustrating for users who have been banned and highlights just how difficult it is to police the behaviour of guests on rented properties, especially in regards to partying - considering the huge scale on which Airbnb operates globally.
According to Vice, Airbnb has been performing background checks on its users since 2016 via a company that claims it can perform one in less than 0.3 seconds. But this means that users may also be banned for trivial stuff, like leaving a dog unleashed.
