Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is going to visit India on a three-day trip starting January 15. The tour will include meeting with not just top executives of Amazon India, but also leading industrialists and politicians in the country.
The e-commerce mogul is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other government officials. At this meeting, he plans to discuss regulatory issues with the government official. Meeting with the PM, however, isn¡¯t confirmed as of now.?
Bezos will also be attending SMBhav -- an event that focuses on small and medium businesses in India which is scheduled for January 15-16. This event will enable discussion for the adoption of technology that can help small businesses in India to flourish.?
This event is expected to host other industry experts like Kishore Biyani (CEO of Future Group) and Piyush Pandey -- CEO of Ogilvy. Amazon is also going to address small business owners to help them collaborate with the online retailer¡¯s products, services and platforms in order to help their business flourish.
On this trip, Jeff Bezos is also expected to meet a bunch of Bollywood celebrities at a fireplace chat hosted by Shah Rukh Khan. The event is being dubbed as a ¡®Prime Video¡¯ event, according to anonymous sources.?
This will be Jeff¡¯s second visit to India, the first one being in 2014, when Amazon entered the Indian market.?
It isn¡¯t going to be all fun, as more than 500, 000 traders, part of a trader¡¯s association are going to stage protests in the country on January 15 over hefty discounts that e-retailers give, causing the offline shops to suffer. The protest is expected to be staged across 300 locations in the nation to make international brands adhere to stipulated FDI policies.
