While you were busy making your list of new year resolutions that would barely last a month, Amazon quietly went ahead and changed its logo on the app icon in January.?
However, the new icon, even though it looked quite fresh and new, design-wise, it didn¡¯t get a positive response from the people like Amazon would have expected.?
The logo had a lagged piece of blue paper at the centre with the Amazon-smile at the bottom on what looked like a cardboard box. However, people thought this to look a lot like Adolf Hitler smiling -- not the thing you¡¯d expect after changing the logo after nearly five years.?
This caused quite a kerfuffle on Twitter and other social media platforms. And it seems that it hit Amazon where it hurt, as just last night, it went ahead and quietly made a small tweak to the logo.?
The blue jagged tape that looked like the toothbrush moustache of Hitler now looked like an Amazon tape folded.?
Amazon, in a statement to CNN, revealed what they were trying to do with the first logo change in five years, "We designed the new icon to spark anticipation, excitement, and joy when customers start their shopping journey on their phone, just as they do when they see our boxes on their doorstep."?
And while the new logo does seem more ¡®politically correct¡¯, now people online are resembling this face to Avatar Aang from the Avatar anime series. In case you didn¡¯t know Avatar has an arrow-like shape on his bald head that looks somewhat like the folded tape logo. While not many might agree with this, it¡¯s a better similarity than Hitler for sure.?
Just last month, we saw Indian fashion e-commerce platform Myntra come up in the news after its logo was found offensive towards women, which resulted in the logo to be redesigned slightly to make it more appropriate.
