The never-ending debates between iPhones and Android smartphones usually take into account specs, design, and? affordability. But a new survey has gone a step further to assess which one of the two, an Android or an iPhone user, is the better driver.
If you're an awful driver, it is more likely for you to possess an Apple iPhone. A US survey conducted by insurance company Jerry found that Android users make safer drivers than iPhone owners.
The insurance company took into account the driving behaviour of 20,000 drivers over almost 13 million kilometres (8 million miles). Android users emerged as winners in five categories - including speed, distraction, braking, and accelerating as shown in the graph below.
Surprisingly, improved driving capabilities among Android users over iPhone users had nothing to do with age, for the study took into account people aged between 18-65. In all six age-specific categories, Android users emerged as better drivers.

The report also adds that the study had twice as many iPhone users as Android users. Even then, Android users scored better on all variables in terms of driving. In addition, Jerry also assessed the educational background and credit scores of all participants to find that Android users performed better even in these arenas.
The report by Jerry also mentioned that iPhone users are younger, make more money, and don't even want to date someone with an Android device. On the other hand, Android users have been found to be more "open, honest, and humble."
It's hard to pinpoint exactly what may be influencing Android users to drive better, but studies like this one could help researchers deep-dive into the correlation between different smartphones and safe driving.
