Apple seems to be having a really positive quarter as current data from IDC has revealed that Apple has become the world¡¯s biggest seller as shipments from one of the leading smartphone makers in the world -- Huawei -- plummets due to US sanctions against it.?
IDC data revealed that Apple¡¯s shipments surged 22 percent to a record-breaking 90.1 million phones in the quarter, giving it a global market share of 23.4 percent.
This data came right after Apple revealed its record holiday quarter sales. As per the data, it was also the first time its revenue crossed $100 billion.
Samsung had claimed the top spot in the previous quarter, but this quarter it came to the second position with it shipping 73.9 million devices -- a year on year increase of 6.2 percent.?
Huawei dropped 42.4 percent in this quarter, shipping only 32.2 million devices.
According to a report by Reuters, despite the delay in the sale of iPhone 12¡¯s compared to the timeline of previous iPhones, the devices got an overwhelming response due to its 5G compatibility, new aesthetic as well as a variety of models to choose from. This demand was more prominent in China with sales in Greater China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) showed a 57 percent surge over the quarter.?
Tim Cook said in a statement, "We had two of the top three selling smartphones in urban China.¡± He added, ¡°Upgraders in particular set an all-time record in China."
Reports have highlighted that even in India, Apple has managed to double its market share from 2 percent to a considerable 4 percent. Apple shipped close to 3.2 million iPhone units in 2020. For the quarter ending in December, iPhone shipments stood at 1.5 million showing 100% year-on-year growth.
