What if we told you that the future of social media is in your mind? Scientists have developed a brain implant that is thinner than a human hair and allows users to keep using social media through their mind, akin to how Neuralink's envisioned brain interface tech works.
The experimental chip was created especially for paralysed patients who cannot physically communicate with a computer or a smartphone. When the tech reaches peak development, it could also be used by the general public for their social media needs.
The technology is different from Neuralink's brain implant. This particular chip involves a less invasive procedure and the chip sits on the brain instead of in the tissue.
The implant is called Layer 7 Cortical Interface and it is essentially a strip of flexible, thin film material that has electrodes on it. Its thickness is one-fifth of a human hair, helping it sit on the brain without causing tissue damage.
It seems that the device is implanted by making a thin slit in the skull and sliding it in. The company behind this tech is called Precision; its CEO Michael Mager recently told CNBC that the slit is less than a millimetre thick which means that patients do not need to shave their heads to be implanted with the same.

"I¡¯ve never met anyone who wanted a hole drilled into their skull," he said.
This implant works by collecting brain signals, interpreting them, and then sending commands to a machine based on the brain signal. ?Scientists think that this tech may be used to treat neurological conditions.
Perhaps the best thing about this tech is that it is reversible in case patients no longer want it in their head.
