Earlier this month, Cambridge Analytica announced it was shutting shop in the US, claiming they¡¯d just received too much bad press from the Facebook scandal to possibly recover from. I mean, that sort of thing was bound to happen after they compromised the data of 87 million people.

At the time CA, said it and its UK counterpart SCL Elections were both shuttering, with Analytica¡¯s CEO telling employees at a New York town hall that they had considered all the options and there was no way to repair the brand. Now, according to Reuters, it seems the company is also filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy at New York¡¯s Southern District¡¯s Bankruptcy Court.
Of course, even if it shuts down and files for bankruptcy, that doesn¡¯t stop authorities from investigating in any way. Both the Department of Justice and the FBI are probing the case in the US, with UK officials also scrutinizing SCL Elections.
And yet, this may not be the end of the company at all. Reports emerged earlier this month that another company by the name of Emerdata Limited is registered in the UK with the same office address as SCL Elections, even sharing most of the same management team and investors. It¡¯s likely then that CA¡¯s shutdown and bankruptcy filing is just a ploy to help people forget about all the bad things it¡¯s connected to, and pave the way for a new company to (controlled by the same people) to take its place.
