Your WhatsApp chats just got more secure! A new "Chat Lock" feature is currently rolling to users on iOS and Android. This feature will allow users to keep their messages more private.?
While the app already offers end-to-end encryption to prevent anyone from intercepting the conversations, the new feature will allow users to select conversations that they wish to keep hidden from others.
These conversations may be locked by using a passcode, or biometric data like your fingerprints and face. The feature was announced in a blog post on Monday. Meta claims that the feature will move locked chat threads to a different folder.
No notifications from these chats will show the sender's name or the message preview. In addition, no media files shared in these chats will be automatically saved in the phone gallery.
The feature is available on the latest version of WhatsApp - Android version 2.23.10.71 or iOS version 2.23.9.77. To move any conversation to the locked folder, simply tap on the thread and click on chat lock.

Meta plans to introduce new updates to the feature, including the ability to create customised passwords that are different from already existing passwords for unlocking your phone.
"We think this feature will be very useful for those who sometimes have to give their phone to their family members or it will be very useful when your phone is in someone else's hand and at the same time you get a private message," WhatsApp wrote in a blog post.
In addition, WhatsApp is working on a Chat Lock feature to work across all companion devices on which a WhatsApp account may be active.?

"New locked chats in WhatsApp make your conversations more private. They're hidden in a password protected folder and notifications won't show sender or message content," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote on Facebook.
