The People's Republic of China has gone ahead and suspended Tencent Holdings from updating its existing apps or launching new ones as a part of a ¡®temporary administrative guidance¡¯, according to a report by Reuters via Chinese media outlet Yicai.

As per the reports, China¡¯s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has ordered the app stores and platforms to follow the order against the tech giant starting Wednesday.?
Tencent has announced in a statement that it is complying with the authorities on inspecting its apps, while indirectly confirming the suspension.?
There is no tentative timeline for the duration of this suspension and the Chinese ministry hasn¡¯t really revealed any information about this officially as of now.?
Tencent said in a statement, ¡°We are continuously working to enhance user protection features within our apps, and also have regular cooperation with relevant government agencies to ensure regulatory compliance. Our apps remain functional and available for download.¡±

This suspension comes at a time when China is looking at the tech sector of the nation under a microscope. The capital has been fast-tracking its legislation to ensure regulation of data in the country, especially with the enactment of the Data Security Law in September this year that forces firms to undergo a thorough security assessment in order to gain approval to send data overseas.?

In fact, on November 3rd, The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology ordered 38 apps from companies, including three made by Tencent -- Tencent News, a Karaoke app and QQ Music -- to fix excessive data collection practices.
